Ukubebe drumming classes use hand-drumming and percussion activities which nurture children’s social, emotional and creative development. This is a dynamic and fun class for learning African drumming techniques and hand percussion. The class will explore learning the musical elements of beat and rhythm, and will include echo & response games and solo turns. Creativity is developed through improvisation, musical-story-telling and playing soundscapes. Group participation will foster leadership and respect.

Drumming Fun and percussion classes are taught by Percussionist, Megan Lipworth. Megan is professional percussionist and loves teaching children.

Benefits

Through rhythm games and activities, children will develop important social skills such as turn-taking, cooperation and listening, as well as build self-esteem, leadership skills, foster creativity and self-expression, and create the perfect environment for children to bond and connect with each other in a positive way.

In a drum for fun class children will:

Participate in a fun entry-level learning experience, which is accessible to anyone who wants to join in.

Drum Circle participants express themselves collectively by using a chorus of tuned and un-tuned percussion, and vocals, to create a musical song together while having a great time.

These classes are non-competitive, all-inclusive and there are no wrong notes. Activities are designed to be fun, easy and create success. Children’s’ diverse and unique personalities are celebrated so that each child can feel comfortable in just being themselves.
